SPIES INFILTRATE CAL-CITY

Just learned that some riders have been given OHV maps that have routes leading them from the desert to MacDonald’s, Fastrip, Rite Aid, Mendiburu, and other streets which are NOT designated as OHV trails. Where do these maps come from? We have no idea but they are out there.
Someone or a group of people are trying to undermine our efforts to keep control of the OHV’ers coming in and going out of town. We’ve put out the word to many OHV’ers that if anyone gives them this “bogus map” they should try to find out who they are, or what vehicle they are driving or any information that will help us track down the culprits.

Many of us are not paranoid about these things, but we speak from experience. Personally, I’ve seen too many strange things happen in the last 30 years and know how some zealots in Green Peace, the Sierra Club, Friends of Earth and a plethora of other environmental groups have undermined, hurt, injured and even killed people:

Example 1: During the 1983 Barstow to Vegas off-road race, early in the morning, before the start of the race, members of the Sierra Club went and changed the course markings at a spot where the racecourse hit a major wash. Instead of going across the wash, over 3500 people were sent north on the wash to a dead-end canyon, which no one could get out. The results were that hundreds, maybe even a thousand riders were trying to get out and thusly, climbed hills, crisscrossed mountains and literally had to find their way out of the desert. The following week the papers showed photos of how the off-roaders scarred several mountains and impacted the environment. Yeah, right! A month later the individuals were found and were prosecuted, but among those who read the first story, we already had a black eye.

Example 2: The year before, there was a race in Olancha, CA. Someone strung a fishing line between two trees. The leader of the desert race almost had his head decapitated. He was seriously hurt and wound up in the hospital for almost a month. Later it was found that the people who did this were members of a local environmental group.

Example3: In Oregon, while a man was using his chainsaw to cut down trees (they had permission to cut in the area), he hit a large nail that had been driven into the trunk of the tree by someone in the Friends of the Spotted Owl group. The chain broke and cut the worker’s face. He lost his left eye. The Friends of the Spotted Owl member, I believe, is still serving time in Northern California.

Example 4: One of our own OHV’ers, his name is “Super Hunky” infiltrated the Sierra Club years ago and attended their meetings. After several months he learned of many things that they were going to do to off-roaders. He published them in a newsletter that was circulated among OHV’ers and stopped these heinous acts from happening.

So yes, we’re worried that someone out there, right now, is trying to undermine all the good that the City of California City has done and is doing and the good behavior that most of the OHV’ers are maintaining. We have to be vigilant.

When we find the culprit(s) I will personally expose the individual or individuals, publish their name and make sure that everyone in Cal City knows about these people. I almost certain that it isn’t just one person. He, she may be living near you.
